Life is hard. Church shouldn't be.

What can I expect?

When you arrive there will be greeters at the door to welcome you and give you a bulletin. Some people chose to talk in the lobby before the service while others like to sit. Don't be surprised if someone comes over to say hello to you. We won't ask too many questions. Many of us remember what it is like to visit a new church. If you arrive late, please do not be embarrassed. We are happy that you came.

In the bulletin, you will find a basic outline of the worship service on one side and an outline of the message on the other. On the TV screens, you will find the words to songs, prayers, and scriptures. A typical service opens with singing, then a welcome and announcements and a time of greeting. Our members tend to venture all over the sanctuary to say hello. Feel free to stay where you are if that is what is most comfortable for you. Next is the children's sermon and the collection of the offering. We believe giving is a private spiritual discipline, don't worry, no one is looking. Following the collection is the worship set which involves several songs strung together. Our goal is to prepare our hearts for prayer and the message. The message typically lasts twenty-five minutes. Our preachers work hard to translate the wisdom of the Bible into a practical lesson that you can apply to your life. We conclude with a short song and a final blessing. The service consistently lasts one hour.

What about my kids?

We welcome you to bring your children into worship with you. Our experience is that some kids need several visits before they participate in our kid's programs. In the lobby, there are small clip boards with pictures to color that we welcome your son or daughter to use.

Our nursery is immediately to the right when you walk in the front doors. This is for infants up to 4 years old. There will be two nursery room attendants there. Please check in with one of them. Children 4-10 years old should join you in worship. There will be a Children's sermon about 10-15 minutes into the service. After it, the children are invited to go to Sunday school where they will be led through an age-appropriate video lesson and craft by two of our teachers.

Do you serve Communion?

Communion is a remembrance of the last meal Jesus had with his disciples. We offer communion the first Sunday of the month to help us all remember that every meal we eat is a sign of God's saving grace. Our communion table is open to everyone—baptized or not, confessed or not, sure or not, saint or sinner or a little of both, young and old.  We believe that God holds back no one from the table of God’s grace, mercy, and forgiveness.

How do I get there? Where do I park?

Faith is located on the far south side of Indianapolis in the neighborhood formerly known as Perry Township.  We reside on 7.5 acres of land on the northwest corner of East Thompson Rd. and Gray Rd.  Our address is 4040 East Thompson Rd.  We are conveniently located about halfway between Keystone and Emerson, near the southwest corner of Beech Grove, IN.

Our parking lot is very large and we have several handicapped parking spaces that are clearly marked and located closest to the entrance.  Please click on the following link for directions: Faith United Church of Christ

What should I wear?
Some people come dressed in their Sunday best. Others dress more casually. Either way, we believe that God cares more about the state of our hearts than the state of our attire, and encourage you to dress the way that feels most appropriate to you.  You’ll notice that during the football season, the attire leans toward blue and white.

Is there fellowship time after church?
After Sunday morning worship a coffee hour will be hosted in the foyer and the room just to the right of the Sanctuary. We invite you to stick around for a snack or beverage, strike up a conversation, and make some new friends!  We also do a Next Steps lunch on the 3rd Sunday of every month immediately following the service. This is a great time to fellowship with other members of the church and get the opportunity to meet someone new.

Is the church handicap accessible?
Faith United Church of Christ’s church is handicap accessible on two levels.  On the Sanctuary level, you may enter the church through the main entrance.  To access Fellowship Hall, please enter through the second set of doors, located in the lower end of the parking lot.  Inside the building, there is a comfortable Handicap Lift that glides over the steps to either floor.

How can I get more information?
Please feel free to speak with Pastor Scott after church or make an appointment to visit with him during the week.  You may also email us at and we’ll make sure your questions get to the right place.
